THE ESSENTIAL HISTORIC LOWER MANHATTAN PRIVATE THREE-HOUR WALKING TOUR

Exploring New York’s Origins and More… To best understand the history of New York City, one starts in Lower Manhattan, the Financial District. In this tour, you’ll discover landmarks from the 17th century when the city was still New Amsterdam; landmarks from 18th-century New York when George Washington led the Continental Army in pursuit of American independence; and other notable spots from the era of slavery, through the 20th century when Wall Street became the world’s financial capital, to the post-9/11 New York of today. For several years I worked various office jobs throughout this part of the city. During lunch breaks I’d wander and explore. Daily I’d be surprised and delighted by the area’s fascinating jumble of history, design, and harbor views. It’s one of my pleasures to turn others onto this unique corner of the world.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN
& CENTRAL PARK PRIVATE THREE-HOUR WALKING TOUR

Exploring the World’s Most Iconic Business District and Famous Urban Park… This tour will take you into the world’s largest, most iconic business district, and one of the world’s most lyrical, brilliantly planned urban parks. Midtown began its ascent as a major business district in the early 1900s with some grand beaux-arts style structures, but it was the glamour of those 1930s art-deco landmark skyscrapers that solidified its iconic status. To enter timeless Central Park from bustling, ever-changing Midtown is to enter another era, one of leisure, pastoral calm and imaginative 19th century design. I’ll be there to guide you through these complementary, contrasting New York marvels.

DISCOVERING BROOKLYN
PRIVATE HALF-DAY WALKING TOUR

Charm, History and Culture on the Other Side of the Bridge… Until 1898, when Brooklyn was incorporated into New York City as one of its five boroughs, it was the third largest city in the country. Now it rivals Manhattan as the city’s most coveted borough in which to live. In this tour, you’ll discover charming, historic neighborhoods; unique parks; important cultural landmarks; and unbeatable views of the Manhattan skyline. I love Brooklyn, and love turning people on to this singular, fascinating corner of the city.

GREENWICH VILLAGE, CHINATOWN, LOWER EAST SIDE,
LITTLE ITALY & SOHO PRIVATE HALF-DAY WALKING TOUR

Discovering Downtown New York’s Distinct and Overlapping Worlds… Originally settled by freed slaves in the 17th century, Greenwich Village had become a haven for artists and bohemians by the 20th; now it’s a highly desirable neighborhood of charming, historic streets. Chinatown, originating in the 19th century, exploded in size and population in the mid-20th. Holding on there, and in the neighboring Lower East Side, are fascinating remnants of the Jewish immigrant presence that dominated much of the area from the late 19th century. Little Italy has shrunk to just a few streets, yet it’s still a popular destination for Italian restaurants, bakeries and shops. In the 19th century, SoHo was a shopping district of elegant cast-iron buildings. By the mid-20th, after the buildings had been abandoned, artists squatted in them, transforming the neighborhood into one for artists and art galleries. Thanks to soaring real estate prices, SoHo returned to its identity as a shopping district, with its unique architecture now landmarked. In this tour, we’ll explore these distinctive areas that abut and overlap in interesting and delightful ways.
